Judge Frank Caprio, loved by videos of the viral court, dies at 88 years of pancreatic cancer

According to a shared statement on its official Facebook page, the former providence, Rhode Island, the judge “died peacefully at the age of 88 years after a long and brave battle against pancreatic cancer.”

“Amado for his compassion, humility and unwavering belief in the goodness of the people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond,” the statement continued. “His warmth, humor and kindness left an indelible brand in all who knew him.”

The statement continued and said that “he will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devout husband, father, grandfather and friend. His legacy living in the innumerable acts of goodness that inspired. In his honor, we can strive to bring a little more compassion to the world, as he did every day.”

Many can meet Caprio of his television program, “Capty In Providence”, in which the clips of the series have become viral on social networks.

Caprio became known as the “best judge in the world” for his compassion in the Court Chamber and the clemency he provided to those who needed him the most.

The show was issued in 2000 and obtained four Diurnal nominations of the Emmy.

“Compassion, understanding and sympathy really emanates from my education, my early childhood,” said “GMA3” in February while promoting his book, “Compassion in the Court: stories that change the lives of the best judge in the United States.” “My parents were from Italy and took care of all the neighbors and helped them, and it was those influences that really influenced my life.”

“Sometimes you can change someone’s life simply by placing your hand on your shoulder and telling them that you believe in them,” Caprio told NBC Boston in 2024.

Born on November 23, 1936, Caprio grew in Providence, Rhode Island, where he would continue as a judge of the municipal court almost 50 years later, according to his website.

Before the law, he taught the US government at Hope High School in Providence. While he taught, he also attended the night school at the Law Suffolk Law School in Boston.

He served as Judge of the Municipal Court of Providence from 1985 to 2023.

In December 2023, shortly after his 87th birthday, Caprio shared an emotional video on social networks that revealed his cancer diagnosis.

“I would ask each of you in your own way to please pray for me,” he started in the video at that time. “Recently, I didn’t feel good and I received a medical exam and the report was not good.”

“I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which is an insidious form of cancer,” he continued.

Caprio said he was being treated by the disease.

“I know that this is a long path and I am completely prepared to fight as hard as I can,” he added and thanked his followers for his kind messages. “I need the power of prayer that I think that in addition to the medical treatment I am receiving is the most powerful weapon to help me survive this. Just knowing that you kept me in your thoughts means the world for me.”

In May 2024, Caprio completed his latest radiation treatment, sharing on social networks that the bell touched in Baptist Health Cancer Care to mark the occasion.

In one of his last videos on his official Instagram page, which was shared on Tuesday, Caprio said he had a “setback” and returned to the hospital. He asked his followers to “remember in your prayers once again.”

“I ask you again if it’s not too much to remember in your prayers,” he said.

Caprio is survived by his wife, Joyce Caprio, almost 60 years old, his five children, seven grandchildren and two great -grandchildren, according to his website.
