Parents seek justice after fatally stabbed son trying to stop the attack against a friend

The victim, identified by her family as Raymond Orozco, was killed the morning of Sunday in downtown San José, California, where he and a group had left for one night in the city, said the victim’s parents.

“We would like to obtain justice for him. We would like the police to obtain the person who did this and gave them what he deserves,” said Orozco’s father, Roy Orozco, to ABC San Francisco Kgo-TV station.

San José Police officers responded to the calls of stabbing around 12:51 am on Sunday in an entertainment district of the center, according to the San José Police Department.

“Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim who suffers from at least one stab wound,” police said in a statement. “The officers immediately began measures of salvation of life and summoned the paramedics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he finally succumbed to his wounds and was declared deceased.”

The guilty unidentified in the homicide left the scene before the police arrived and remained in general, the authorities said.

“During the course of the investigation, the detectives learned that the victim was involved in a physical confrontation before stabbing and believes that the incident could have been recorded in the video of the cell phone by several not involved spectators,” police said in a statement, asking anyone with video or information about the attack to contact detectives immediately.

In the interview with Kgo-TV, the mother of Orozco, Daniela Ruiz said the murderer “took my heart.”

Ruiz and Roy Orozco said their son was out with a cousin and two friends when one of the women in his group was attacked in South 2nd Street in San José.

Roy Orozco said he learned that his son had intervened to break the attack when he was stabbed.

“It’s not as if he were hurting someone. He was just trying to get the people out of someone else,” said Roy Orozco. “For someone to throw someone disarmed from a weapon, it is more than ridiculous.”

The parents said their son worked in a group house for older people with physical disabilities and development. Raymond Orozco hoped to become a first responder, their parents said, and recently they had been accepted to attend a fire academy in Chabot College in Hayward, California, in autumn.

“They took out one of the brightest lights in the world,” said Roy Orozco. “It is affecting more than only us. It affects many other people, and the potential had to help more people who have just been removed from the world.”
