The Republican representative, Thomas Massie, said on Sunday that he meets the calls of Democratic representative Ro Khanna to the summons of Jeffrey Epstein, the documents related to his case, including, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, a birthday letter to Epstein allegedly written by President Donald Trump in 2003.
“Well, I think we should get much more than just the book. We obtain the financial records of the farm. Where is the money, as they say here,” Massie told ABC News “This Week”, the co-acted Jonathan Karl. “We should look at the guilt treatment. Open that. Do you see the deal? What was the treatment that was cut? I think there is much more than that letter.”
The Wall Street Journal reported a birthday message that Trump allegedly wrote in a message book for Epstein’s 50th birthday: the president denies that he exists and has sued the newspaper for defamation for the report. ABC News has not been able to confirm the existence of the letter.
The joint legislation of Massie and Khanna would force a vote of the Chamber on the release of Epstein archives in the possession of the Department of Justice. However, the speaker Mike Johnson sent the house for August recess a day before, effectively avoiding efforts to release more files. Massie and Khanna are looking for a high request, which with 218 votes from the members of the House of Representatives would ignore Johnson.

“I would force a complete launch of the files. It has the strength of the law,” Massie said in “This week.” “It’s not a summons. It’s not a ‘beautiful please, would you launch the files?’ It is the force of the law and has protections to write the names of the victims and avoid, you know, the release of child pornography. “
Khanna added that the democratic interest in this case is not new, despite the statements that the party has clung to the case, since it causes internal struggles between some of the Trump’s magic base.
“We have been pressing for transparency during the Biden administration, both in 2021 and 2024, the court ordered the release of documents, but Donald Trump raised the bets and did so in a way in the campaign that was justified. He said: ‘Look, when I get there, I will release the files,” Khanna said.
Here are more outstanding aspects of Massie and Khanna’s interview:
Khanna about potential clemency for Ghislaine Maxwell
Karl: Congressman Khanna, we had this quite extraordinary visit to Florida, by Todd Blanche to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell. Do you agree with those who say she should testify? Do you want me to testify before Congress?
Khanna: Yes. I have skepticism, since she was accused of perjury, since she has a reason to get a forgiveness. Again, I love that Todd Blanche met with her, supposedly, one by one. But I am in favor of all the evidence that comes out. However, it is important that this is not something that is anti-president Trump. This is for transparency. I am less worried about your mentions. I am much more concerned with the hundreds of people who were powerful and rich, who had impunity, and I am concerned to restore justice for the victims. He promised to expose this. I think the American people do not believe it is a perfect person. They thought I was going to expose a system that did not work for them, and that’s what it really is.
[Editor’s note: Perjury charges against Maxwell were dropped after she was convicted of sex trafficking.]

Massie about the criticism of the speaker Johnson
Karl: So how do you respond to that? And he is doing, yes, he is making a variation of the question I asked Congressman Khanna. He is like, you know, “Why didn’t you try to do this four years ago?”
Massie: Well, as Khanna said, you know, I have evidence of tweets where I have been asking for these things before. The question is why Mike Johnson doesn’t have this vote? Why did you send us home early? And he talks about political pain for Republicans, as if invoking transparency and inflicting pain, that should be very revealing. What is painful to have this vote? I will tell you what politically will be a responsibility is if we do not vote on this and enter half of the exams and everyone becomes, you know, they simply move because the Republicans did not fulfill their promise, and Donald Trump. We will lose the majority. By the way, they are also carrying $ 1.8 million of ads against me, the Republicans are.
Massie in Trump possibly protecting friends in the files
Karl: Yes, and what is happening in the administration about this, Congressman Massie? I mean, they dedicated themselves, we talked before, around 1,000 FBI, personnel of the Department of Justice, personnel of the Department of Justice who work on this, all this is spoken of freeing him and, suddenly, the president refers to him as a hoax and says that nobody cares.
Massie: Well, I don’t think it’s a hoax at all. It is emblematic of the promise that President Trump brought to the White House, how he energized so many people who had left the political system. He was going to be the guy who holds all rich and powerful and politically connected people, and that is why there is so much disappointment at this time. I do not believe that the president himself is particularly involved in these files. You know, there have been some theories that is the case. But I think he has friends who can be ashamed of the launch of these files. And the version of these files may not involve them. It can be a shame. But for some reason he has decided to make a 180 about this.
