The director of “Anora”, Sean Baker, made history in 2025 Oscar Sunday night.

Bong Joon-Ho accepted four Oscar in a single night in the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. However, one of the trophies he accepted was the best international feature film for his film “Parasite”. The Oscar in that category technically go to the country of origin for the film, which means that Joon-Ho accepted in the name of South Korea, not himself.
During all his acceptance speeches, Baker talked about the power of independent cinema, both how he has inspired him as how he expects the art form to continue in the coming generations.

By accepting the Oscar for the best film, Baker said: “This film was made about blood, sweat and tears of incredible independent artists, and a long -lived independent film.”
Previously, accepting the Oscar to the best director, Baker urged viewers to watch movies in cinemas, calling for cinematographic experience “a vital part of our culture.”
