UnitedHealth Group faces a criminal and civil investigation of the Department of Justice, the company revealed Thursday.
The company in a presentation of the SEC said it was complying with the requests of the Department of Justice. UnitedHealth said he contacted the Department of Justice “proactively” after the media report on their Medicare practices.
“The company has now begun to comply with the formal and civil requests of the department. The company has full confidence in its practices and undertakes to work cooperatively with the department throughout this process,” UnitedHealth said.
The announcement of UnitedHealth that faces a federal investigation adds to an increasingly tumultuous year for the largest health company in the country.

The CEO of UnitedHealth Group abruptly left the company in May, and the price of the company’s shares submerged after a series of reports on the Wall Street Journal on civil and criminal probes in the company. The WSJ reported in May that the DOJ Health Fraud Unit was investigating the possible Medicare fraud in the company, which adds to investigations of possible antitrust violations and its Medicare billing practices.
The company had the worst performance of the Dow Jones industrial average during the first half of 2025. The price of its shares decreased by 1.5 percent in the morning negotiation after the announcement.
In a presentation before the Bag and Securities Commission, UnitedHealth said he has “full confidence” in his practices. He added that a monitor designated by the Court did not find irregularities after a decade investigation into his Medicare Advantage business.
“The company undertakes to maintain the integrity of its commercial practices and serve as reliable administrators of US tax dollars,” said UnitedHealth.
The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
